First lessons in year 7

Someone once told me that a student makes the decision about whether they might take your subject at GCSE based on their impression/enjoyment of their first few lessons in year 7. If that is true, what do you get your year 7's doing? I've gone for a mix of singing and a quick black note improvisation over a homemade backing track (which is a winner). I've also decided to bin the normal first assessment piece (Oh When the Saints or equivalent) for a slightly harder pop piece, which makes use of the numerous keyboard tutorials on youtube. Not sure how this is going to be received though! Anyone had any successes with anything else?
